Petitioning Perumal Murugan
Harassed and bullied into pulling his books off the shelves, Tamil author Perumal Murugan swore never to write again. In fact, he wrote his obituary. For those of us who love the world of literature, it is heart-breaking to see a book getting banned. Not to say the stifling of someone’s freedom of speech and expression that is their basic human right. Perumal Murugan’s Madhorubhagan (One Part Woman) had to be removed off of the shelves because some random groups protested against it. Mr.Murugan announced that the writer in him has died! I am shocked and hurt that we forced an author to give up his art. As a believer in the freedom of expression, I think we can right this wrong. Let’s show Mr. Murugan that he has thousands of people who believe in the might of his pen, who are standing by him in this dark hour. Let’s all request him to promise to write again and not let groups bully writers into silence. Mr. Murugan we are looking up to you to not let these voices of dissent overcome truth. Mr. Murugan, we will stand with you as you come back with a bang. Please promise to write again.
